One thing keeps surprising me

In conversations with leaders in transition
thy are all “doing well on paper” :

Most of them know something has to change.
Very few know how to build the next step.

Result:
They postpone the decision.

And without realizing it, they make the same mistakes again and again.

That’s what I want to explore with you today.

The topic of the week

How to build your next career step
> 5 common mistakes
> 5 strategies that will help

First: the 5 most common mistakes

Read them slowly.
Notice which ones resonates most

 Mistake #1

You want to be “clear” before acting
basically you want to ensure it’s going to be succesful, even before starting working on it

Mistake #2

Looking for the perfect job instead of the next step
Careers are built step by step, and not in one big leap.

Mistake #3

You overthink but you never try something new
I know it too well, It feel safe to just keep thinking.

 Mistake #4

Believing your CV defines who you are
Your CV shows what you’ve done and not what drives you.

 Mistake #5

Waiting for the “right moment”
There is no calm moment. There never has been.

If you recognized yourself in 2 or 3 of these,
keep reading:

Now: 5 things to do instead

Simple and effective.

1-Get clear on what you don’t want anymore
This is often easier -and more honest - than knowing what you want.

2- Reconnect with what drives your motivation
Not your title. Not your salary.
What gives you energy? What drains it?

3- Think in terms of experiments, not clear-cut decisions
A project. A stretch assignment. A conversation.
Test before you choose: when you’r emerged you can see if the vibe feels good

4-Talk to people, not AI
you wil often gets more out of real conversations with inspiring people than dry job descriptions or chatgpt. You can listen to real stories, their motivation, their setbacks

5-Accept the uncomfortable phase
The “in-between” is not a problem.
It’s part of the process. you should accept that(I know , that one is hard for many)

A simple exercise

Take a sheet of paper.

On the left:
“What I no longer want in my career.”

On the right:
“What I’m willing to test in the next 6 months.”

What do you notice?

One last question

And I’ll leave you with this:

👉 What’s the real cost of not changing anything?

Another 6 months?
Another 2 years?
Another version of yourself you’ve outgrown?

Your next chapter won’t write itself.

That’s it for today.

Did something shift for you while reading?
Which mistake do you see most often , in yourself or around you?

See you next week,

Yours,

Stephanie.
