Looking for a job? It’s not your CV that gets you in. It’s your network.
You might be the perfect fit, but if your network doesn’t know it, no one else will
Every week, I meet people who obsess over their CV or spend hours trying to make it perfect
That’s important, and I wouldn’t want anyone to think that they should be neglected. However:
💡 A resume is good
🔥 A point of difference is great
🚀 but the reality is that it’s most likely your network that will get you hired.
Let’s rewind a bit
Your resume and LinkedIn profile? They are your shop window as I like to say: they must shine and be reflective of who you are.
An outdated page or a weak headline on Linkedin is like rocking in an interview totally unprepared
Next: your point of difference.
Forget the “Ninja consultant” profile or the “can-do-it-all” pitch.
Recruiters want to know: why you?
If, on top of your leadership skills, you’re passionate about Food and dream of working for the number 1 brand in the industry — say it loud. Let people know what drives you.
If Fashion makes your heart beat faster and you aim for prestigious fashion brands : own it! Don’t be shy
But here’s the real game-changer.
YOUR NETWORK
You network is what will allow you to create visibility and trust.
Because behind every job post, there’s a person ,and behind every person, a network that decides who gets seen first.
That’s how opportunities move now: through conversations, referrals, and reputation.
Don’t think you have to “network like a pro.”
Even if you consider yourself as an introvert (on this point, that’s often a limiting belief, and I should dedicate a whole article about it)
You just need to show up consistently.
Comment on posts in your industry (a plus but not a must)
Congratulate someone on a new role.
Remain open to any opportunity that comes up
Ask for a 10-minute virtual coffee to learn, not to ask for a job, so you don’t feel like you’re begging
Nurture your connections over time : an absolute must, especially if you’re thinking changing job in 2026
Small, genuine actions compound.
Soon enough, your name will circulate before your CV even lands on the desk.
Because today, no network = no presence = no opportunities.
Feeling a bit stressed as you read this? Don’t.
You can start small:
1️- Tap into your alumni group
2️- Reconnect with old colleagues
3️- Reach out to friends of friends
Each conversation plants a seed.
